At the age of 16 years old, Dennis started a five-year apprenticeship that would cover all the fields of the automobile industry. He also attended the Paddington Technical College in London and the Basingstoke Technical College in Hampshire after he completed his apprenticeship and became certified in all aspects of automotive technology. During his apprenticeship, he served with Roots Group and later transferred to British Leyland Corporation and Rolls-Royce.
In 1963, at the age of 22, he immigrated to the United States where he set up Capitol Motors as the first foreign car dealership in Annapolis. He trained other mechanics to work on imported cars, including Roots Group and British Leyland.
Dennis served as their service manager for the next five years. He left Capitol Motors to set up other dealerships, including Severna Auto Sports for Saab and Fiat and other foreign cars. He was then hired by Gladding Rolls-Royce as the service director to oversee Rolls-Royce, Bentley, MG, Austin-Healey, and BMW, and finally Toyota City for Toyota, Jaguar Saab, and other fine imports.
In 1977, he opened his own business, City Imports Ltd, at a location on Crain Hwy in Glen Burnie. In 1990, due to expansion, City Imports Ltd moved to its present location at Penrod Court, still in Glen Burnie. In 1999, he got his company started in auto sales and now sells pre-owned imported cars.
